I love this recipe - a pound of ground beef and a few things you already have on hand in the pantry - and you can whip this delicious recipe up. And its very inexpensive - so easy to mass produce for larger crowds.
Ingredients:
Balls:
1 lbs Ground Beef
1 Egg
1/2 cup Bread Crumbs (Or crushed crackers)
Sauce:
3/4 cup White Sugar
3/4 cup Water
1/3 cup Ketchup
1/3 cup White Vinegar
1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
2 Tbsp Corn Starch
3 Tbsp Cold Water
I added some garlic too - but not necessary. |
1. Combine the ground beef, egg and bread crumbs. Roll into balls and bake at 350' until done (about 20 minutes, but could take longer or shorter depending on how large or small your balls are.)
2. For the Sauce - Combine everything EXCEPT the cornstarch and 3 Tbsp water - that is for a slurry to thicken. Bring to a boil and stir to combine. Let simmer.
3. Once simmering, whisk together water and corn starch, and whisk quickly into sauce. Continue to whisk until thickens.
4. I have two schools of thought on the next process. You can add the meatballs and let simmer and serve OR you can spoon the sauce over the meatballs and pasta. You can also add the sauce and meatballs to a crock pot and slow cook them. I've also made this directly in a crock pot, and it worked well, but it was time consuming (watching for it to simmer, adding the slurry, adding the meatballs).
This is one of my favourite recipes - and I'm always asked for it.
